Curated into discipline-based provocation packs, each set includes selected items and an identification key to support diverse educational and creative projects. How you use them is up to you. The botany handling collection comprises an extensive variety of indigenous, introduced and invasive plant species found throughout British Columbia. This collection offers a unique opportunity to explore the diverse plan life of the province, from native species that are integral to local ecosystems to introduced and invasive plants that have impacted the region’s biodiversity.








Entomology
The entomology handling collection features a wide array of insects and arachnids from across British Columbia and other parts of the world. This collection offers a comprehensive look at the diverse arthropod species native to BC providing students the opportunity to deepen their understanding of the rich biodiversity of BC.








Invertebrate
The invertebrate handling collection features real and replica specimens of sea life from British Columbia’s coastal and inland waterways. This collection provides a unique opportunity to explore the diverse aquatic invertebrates that inhabit BC’s rich marine and freshwater ecosystems. From the intricate details of coastal sea life to the fascinating species found in our inland waters, these specimens offer valuable insights into the aquatic biodiversity that shapes the province’s natural environments.







Modern History
The modern history handling collection features objects that illustrate the settler experience in British Columbia. This collection includes items from everyday life in homes, farms, schools, and workplaces, offering a tangible glimpse into the lives of early settlers in the province. By exploring these artifacts, you can gain a deeper understanding of the historical context and daily experiences that shaped British Columbia’s development.








Paleontology
Our paleontology handling collection includes two thoughtfully designed kits. The first kit, Wood versus Fossil, features a diverse selection of materials for students to examine and analyze. The second kit, Cast versus Fossil, provides a range of casts and real fossils, allowing learners to compare and contrast different types of paleontological evidence. Both kits offer engaging hands-on experiences to deepen your understanding of paleontology and fossil analysis.
Vertebrate
The vertebrate handling collection features bird and mammal taxidermy, bones, and skeletal articulations, showcasing the diverse wildlife of British Columbia. This collection is ideal for art projects or any study requiring a close examination of animals.
Program Update
Bookings are now open for programs between September 9, 2025, and May 29, 2026.
You may only book one Provocation Pack per two-week loan period, no extensions. Loans are available for BC Schools and organizations only. Individuals will be considered on a case-by-case basis. There are limited copies available so please plan accordingly.
